In the 70's and 80's Nikon released this accessory during the film
era. It feautures a trigger to shoot directly from the grip using a
Nikon 3 pins release cable. The Nikon Pistol Grip 2 is no
longer in production. But with little luck it can be found in the
used department of you favorite camera store. We love ours and it is
a great compliment to lenses like our 300mm
F/2.8,
Nikon's
80-200 AF-D,
AFS and Nikon's 70-200 f/2.8 VR. They pop-up every now and then at
eBay (where we found ours). A hint during a search for this item on
ebay, enter Nikon Pistol Grip 2 in the search box.

Great for
fast action events but note that this grip does not entirely replace
a monopod.
--Worth
the search and investment--
Approx used
price for the Nikon Pistol Grip 2:
$30-50.00 USD.
These
pictures of the Puerto Rican wood pecker were shot using a Nikon D200
attached to a 300mm F/2.8 lens and a 1.4x Tele-Converter using the
pistol grip.
