Pictures taken with Nikon 18-70 AFS- G ED F/3.5-4.5 kit lens.
We would dare to say that this little fellow is the best kit lens to any other camera on the market. Nikon D70s users are welcomed to the Nikon world with a great and compact wide-to-mid tele lens dressed with ED glass and cool fast AF thanks to its 'SW' (silent wave motor). Stopped down to F/8-F/16, we found the lens sharp as a tack. The lens also features a strong metal mount unlike a plastic mount from other lenses in its class. We found CA well controlled for its length and price range. Distortion is visible starting at 18 and slowly disappears around 20-24mm. Along with 18mm, some pincushion is visible but in our opinion, it is normal for the focal length and of course, its price. Softness is present wide open and light fall-off on wide sides, but this is something to be expected as well. The reason we switched to our 17-55 was constant aperture and you bet, sharpness wide-open.

Most D70 and D70s users are planning to jump onto the 17-55 AFS, would you like to see the difference in size? Check our comparison shot, be ready to make more room in your photo bag!

-Great kit lens, great performer DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE its capabilities-
Approx street price for Nikon's 18-70 AFS- G ED F/3.5-4.5 Lens: $329.99 USD.
