Pictures taken with Nikon 17-55 AFS-G ED F/2.8 Lens.
This is a beautiful lens aimed to professionals, wedding and PJ's love this lens. This lens was built from the ground up as a DX (digital) lens. One thing that attracted us into this lens was its sharpness at F/2.8 @ all focal lenghts. Picture quality is outstanding and reflects Nikon's full support to their DX system. Auto focus on the 17-55 is lightning fast yet silent thanks to its ''S'' servo. When we first received our lens, we tought we had our camera setting to ''M'' manual focus, but no, the lens is really fast and very silent doing its focusing job. This lens is all metal construction ready to withstand heavy proffesional abuse. The Nikon 17-55 AFS lens, might grow a little bit when zoomed to 17mm. This however, does not affect camera balance and the slight size increment happens under the hood. This might be the reason why the hood on this lens is huge. Also the hood size might be a remedy to lens flare which is prone on this lens. Although this lens is prone to flare, it is not as bad as you might hear in photography forums by Nikon 17-35 loyalists.

Yes, we have used the 17-35 and as you should problably know, this is also a Nikon legend. Unfortunately, the 17-35 becomes and odd focal length of 25.5-52mm (+/-). The 17-55 on a DSLR becomes a 25.5-80mm (+/-) making it a versatile lens for those of us missing the 28-70 F/2.8 AFS from our film days.

Nikon 17-55 compared to Nikon 17-35?
IMHO check it out here >>

If you shoot events in low light, that sharpness from the 17-55 wide open is very welcome and those extra 20mm of reach do really make a BIG difference.

Where's the beef? If only Nikon could give a lens case that goes by the hand with the lens price. Where are those fine leather cases we used to get with pricey Nikon lenses? The pouch included with the lens is no protection at all in the field and/or events.
We ordered with the lens a more proper Lowe-Pro 4S lens case for it.

-Built like a rock, incredibly fast and silent AF thanks to its SW (Silent Wave) motor-
Approx street price for Nikon's 17-55mm AFS F/2.8 lens: $1,199.99 USD.
